Description: The Roles
This is an excellent opportunity for a physicist or engineer to develop a career within the nuclear industry. Serco Technical Services is a leading service company supplying technical support and advice to a number of customers, including clients within the government, defence and private sectors. Within the Power Generation Group we work in several project areas, including support for the operation and decommissioning of nuclear power stations. The roles will give the successful applicants excellent opportunities to work at the forefront of this exciting technical discipline.
As part of a group of experienced scientists and engineers you will be contributing to project delivery teams but could also act as the main technical contributor and driver for individual projects in support of safety cases and plant modifications.
Vacancies exist for suitably qualified candidates with experience in Reactor Physics, Transient Analysis or Thermal Hydraulics. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate an aptitude for solving problems and analysing data, as well as developing computational whole plant models and written communication in technical reports. Experience with the modelling code MACE will be particularly welcomed.

Responsibilities
• Modelling real plant problems by the application of quality assured modelling tools
• Working to strict quality assurance standards
• The production of high quality technical reports on the outcome of your work
• Delivering your work to agreed timescales and costs
• Interfacing with customers throughout the lifecycle of projects including the specification, delivery and presentation of results
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
• A good degree in physics, engineering or equivalent relevant experience
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret a variety of technical information
• Excellent written communication skills
• The ability to work well within a team
• Good attention to detail
• Good computer skills
• The ability to work on your own initiative
• Strong delivery focus with problem solving ability
• Adaptable and able to work on a variety of projects, prioritising as appropriate
• Ability to obtain security clearance
Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
• Experience with the reactor physics code MACE
• A knowledge of reactor physics
• A knowledge of transient analysis or thermal hydraulics methods
• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject
• Chartered Physicist or Chartered Engineer status
• Experience of direct client interaction
• A full UK driving licence
