We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Structural Integrity Engineer / lead , to be involved in a game changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.

Job Purpose:

Engineer Role:

Deliver technical policies, requirements or safety case documents on specific structural integrity topics.

Roll out policies and requirements as appropriate through a combination of formal training, local guidance and discussions or stakeholder input to and governance of component development programmes.

Generate creative solutions to challenges, based on a balance and trade off the project drivers, technical and non-technical requirements. Define the method and format of delivering items within the safety case to provide a golden thread through claims, arguments and evidence and ensure a robust approach to structural integrity across a broad range of components and mechanical equipment.

The cross-component team, in which this role will sit, is a pivotal part of the product development, ensuring consistency, standardisation and efficiency across all product development programmes.

Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities in a proactive manner.

Represent the component team and SMR programme on the global stage.

As above, plus:

Provide technical leadership, generate, and manage programmes, costs & risks.

Key Results & What Can Be Achieved in The Role:

The role will be embedded in the components team which will grow through 2024 and 2025 to from 48 to approximately 130 people.

The candidate will be embedded in teams leading the product development for the SMR, internally and in the global supply chain. They will also work at ensuring the design gains regulatory approval through the GDA process.

The role will see product development go through the entire product lifecycle from design into manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operation which provides a unique experience in the Nuclear Industry.

The Key Selection Criteria:

  • Understanding of the cross-functional nature of a higher reliability nuclear structural integrity case against the UK expectations (as set out in the ONR Safety Assessment Principles EMC.1 to EMC.3). The candidate should understand the role that the following disciplines play in structural integrity:

  1. Design and analysis
  2. Materials
  3. Non-destructive examination
  4. Quality
  5. Manufacture

  • The candidate may have a more in-depth knowledge of one or more of those functional areas but a broad range of knowledge would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of ASME BPVC III or equivalent international design codes.

  • Experience in constructing logically structured arguments, compiling a safety case and presenting such a case for example to a regulator.

  • Capable of presenting technical and safety case arguments, including the compilation of claims, arguments, and evidence in formal documentation.

  • Experience with planning, scheduling, and coordinating your own work and that of others. Ability to handle projects that have a high level of ambiguity, with ability to control and provide direction to resolve this ambiguity.

Qualifications & Training:

  • BEng or MEng in process, mechanical or chemical engineering (or equivalent technical experience).
  • Experience within the nuclear industry, and specifically reactor components, is preferred.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards it.

Pay and Benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between 40,000 - 60,000 plus:-

  • Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance - 2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
  • 250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
