- Provide timely/ customer service oriented, credible and expert response to field requests.Ensure systematic oversight, support, and advice.
- Support contractor safety program by a) acting as the SME in the Work Risk Review process for OSH safety issues and all Pre-Qualification activities.
- Develop, revise and assist with the implementation of industrial hygiene programs, procedures and instructions.
- Develop, revise and assist with the implementation of industrial hygiene training programs
- Identify gaps between current practices and company programs, procedures, regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices.
- Assist in the review of industrial hygiene field protocols and reports from IH field operations and contractors.
- Provide technique support to IH field operations and internal clients.
- Prepare detailed technical reports
- Participate in various audits processes as an SME.
- Attend designated meetings and work with a diverse group of internal and external clients
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation
- Minimum of a Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene (IH), Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or related disciplines such as Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology or Applied Science from a university of recognized standing. Membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Minimum six (6) to ten (10) years of experience in industrial hygiene, preferably within a well-known consulting company or research institute. Completing graduate IH program from McGill, U of T and UBC and undergraduate OHS program from Ryerson University would be deemed as 2 years’ experience respectively.
- Experience in developing occupational health and hygiene programs and procedures.
- Experiences in industrial hygiene projects involving confined space entry and rescue, asbestos building management, asbestos inventory, asbestos abatement, lead removal, silica and other designated substances, risk assessments, air monitoring, ventilation evaluation, noise assessments and hearing conservation, respiratory protection, indoor air quality, and physical hazards.
- General knowledge of CNL programs and procedures, particularly those concerning safety.
- Good understanding in occupational health and safety legislation, both in federal and provincial jurisdictions.
- Extensive knowledge in occupational health and hygiene standards, guidelines and best practices from Canadian Federal and Ontario (or other provincial) governments, CSA, ANSI, NIOSH, ACGIH, AIHA, ASHRAE,US EPA and other recognized organizations.
- Familiar with IH laboratory analysis and direct reading instruments.
- Assist in the development ofhazard assessments and control plans
- Be able to function in an integrated work team model that brings together subject matter experts to create workplans for various projects.
- Maintain and grow safety knowledge including, industry best practices and pending changes in legislation.
- Demonstrate interpersonal, communication (active listening, oral expression/comprehension) and, training/presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
- Coordinate and plan tasks
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills in order to work well with members of the Industrial Hygiene Service team
- Advanced level of computer skills desired with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
