Description:

To lead the production of technical safety assessment in the area of radiological, criticality and chemotoxic safety. To act as a Nuclear Safety Case Manager and to produce and check technical radiological safety assessment. To act as an expert Radiological Safety Assessor and a Subject Matter Expert

Duties:

  • Producing and checking Radiological and Chemotoxic Safety Assessments
  • Producing and checking Safety Reports
  • Identifying required deliverables across the facility lifecycle
  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert, delivering training and evaluating the competence of individuals in nuclear safety roles
  • Working with supply chain partners to provide quality
  • Ensuring that discipline team members are aware of and understand relevant legislation, ONR and LLWR guidance, policies and procedures,
  • Providing definitive and reliable nuclear safety case advice to colleagues such as operational staff, engineering, ESC staff, project staff and Safety Case Owners

Essential Skills:

  • Relevant experience acting in a Senior Radiological Safety Assessment role, authoring a variety of radiological nuclear safety assessments and reports.
  • Knowledge of ONR SAP requirements and key ONR guidance relating to nuclear safety cases. 
  • Demonstrable experience in the production, checking and approval of technical nuclear safety assessment (authorship of HAZOPs, HAZANS, Safety Memoranda).
  • Detailed knowledge of the Nuclear Site licence, ONR SAPs, TIGs and TAGs relating to nuclear safety cases, industry guidance, standards, processes, procedures and methods relevant to radiological Safety Assessment.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritise own and team workload against multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Ability to ensure minimum standards and fundamental process requirements are maintained when under pressure to deliver and ability to challenge others at all levels of the organisation.
  • Proven experience in the production of high quality technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience in the production or management of safety cases for the storage or disposal of radioactive waste
  • Knowledge of safety assessment for security
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the REPPIR regulations
