Looking to develop your career in Nuclear? Then this role could be for you.
The Environment Agency is responsible for regulating the disposal of radioactive waste across the nuclear industry in England. Whether it's an operational power station or waste facility, a site undergoing decommissioning or a new build project, our regulators oversee the work of nuclear operators to ensure the highest levels of environmental protection are achieved.
The Nuclear Waste Assessment Team (NWAT) is part of our Nuclear Regulation Group, which regulates nuclear sites in England. NWAT provides specialist technical advice and support as part of our regulatory capability and they have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Nuclear Waste Assessor to join the team and make a difference.
Using your in-depth knowledge of radioactive waste management, you’ll work alongside our site regulators, as well as a range of external bodies, to determine the suitability of proposals for managing and disposing of radioactive waste for both proposed and existing facilities.
You will have a science or engineering degree (or equivalent); significant experience of the management and disposal of solid radioactive waste gained through working in the nuclear or relevant industry sector; proven ability to assess and analyse technical proposals and safety cases for solid radioactive waste management and disposal.
