Senior Safety Case Engineer - Part-Time Location: Warrington - Hybrid 51-56/hour Contract Duration: April 2026 - November 2026 (with potential to continue through project phases to 2029)
About the Project Join the Return of Failed Fuel (RoFF) project, part of the AGR Programme, developing a safety case to export suspect AGR fuel from Receipt & Storage ponds back to AGRSP or FHP. This complex, high-profile project involves reversing standard fuel routing processes and demonstrating the capability to safely move fuel using existing site assets. Currently in the Appraise and Select phase, the project is supported by an Integrated Project Team (IPT) and requires a Senior Radiological Safety Assessor to help deliver safety case documentation, support engineering design, and ensure compliance with nuclear safety standards. Key responsibilities include gap analysis for fuel unpacking and liquid effluent management, and contributing to Hazop/fault identification studies, hazard management strategies, and Safety Case summaries.
Role Overview As a Senior Safety Case Engineer, you will: - Deliver fit-for-purpose, proportionate nuclear safety cases and underpinning assessments to quality, schedule, and cost requirements.
- Ensure safety cases meet Sellafield Ltd Nuclear Safety Case Process expectations.
- Collaborate across disciplines to develop nuclear hazard management strategies and lead hazard identification studies.
- Capture and share Lessons From Experience (LFE) and implement improvements.
- Build strong engagement with stakeholders, including project teams, operations, and regulatory bodies.
- Verify integrated nuclear safety cases and supporting documentation, supporting Sellafield Ltd's assurance processes (Design Reviews, Project Design & Technical Committees).
Knowledge & Expertise
- Detailed understanding of safety case processes and methodologies.
- Experience delivering proportionate nuclear safety assessments that underpin integrated safety cases.
- Awareness of the scope, content, and evidence requirements for integrated nuclear safety cases.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Ability to apply safety case methodologies effectively and lead the delivery of integrated safety cases.
- Strong influencing and leadership skills within multidisciplinary nuclear safety teams.
- Proven track record of collaborative engagement with internal stakeholders (engineering, technical, operations) and external regulators (ONR).
- Competence in solving complex, multi-dimensional problems and communicating technical information clearly.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvement opportunities.
