Senior Commissioning Engineer Dimensional Measurement and Mechanical
We currently have a vacancy for a 'Senior Commissioning Engineer - Dimensional Measurement and Mechanical' at our site in Barrow.
As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will be working on the Trident Strategic Weapon System to undertake dimensional measurements.
You will conduct the testing and commissioning of various mechanical systems that include air, nitrogen, water and hydraulic systems, as well as identifying any potential issues and highlighting these to be rectified.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved in the test and commissioning of a weapon systems within a Nuclear Submarine from build process through to operation at sea.
The dimensional measurements are conducted using approved Test Analysis Guides and Test Procedures that make up the Shipyard Installation Test Program. The role will involve close working with the Dimensional Control Team.
The Mechanical Commissioning task is conducted using Test Procedures that make up the Shipyard Installation Test Program. The role will involve close working with the U.S. Design Authority.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Commissioning Engineer Mechanical will involve:
Undertake dimensional measurements to ensure positional alignment of U.S. coordinated features within the Shipyard Installation Test Program. Support testing and commissioning of Strategic Weapons and supporting systems in accordance with the Test Procedures.
Test Director for assigned Test Procedure.
Working through the Test and Commissioning processes in order to set to work Ship Systems (Mechanical) on the Submarine.
Working through the test procedures to ensure compliance with these.
Working across mechanical systems associated with the Submarines interfacing systems, such as ships systems, Hydraulics/HP Air/Chilled water etc.
Involves a good degree of autonomy, whilst reporting to a Commissioning Project Leader. Expected to take ownership for their own deliverables, and work without immediate supervision.
Commissioning, trials, operation & setting to work of systems / equipment as appropriate.
Providing a support service to Boat Builds, MoD and U.S. Contractors as appropriate either on-site or at HMNB Clyde.
Representing the Company on contractor's sea trials and U.S. facilities as required.
Your skills and qualifications:
HNC or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering field
Test and commissioning experience within mechanical discipline or alternatively experience of the setting to work of mechanical systems. Training will be provided on all aspects of the Strategic Weapons System and supporting Sub Systems required for the role.
Awareness of, experience with, authorised documentation, or test standards
MS Office packages
Electronic Database systems such as UMMs and SAP knowledge would be beneficial
