Description: | Summary Job Description for Underwater Inspection Technical Support Assistant: NNL is where your understanding of reactors fuels the nation. As part of our Fuel Reactor & Reprocessing capability, you’ll play a vital role in developing the UK fuel cycle in line with advances in new technology and new processes. As old reactors reach the end of their lifespan, we need experts like you, with the technical skills to virtually model scenarios that not only enable us to explore new ways of managing the inputs and outputs of reactors, but also pave the way for the implementation of smaller, cleaner revolutionary new reactors. This is a place where you can use your knowledge and expertise to do long term meaningful work for years to come. National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) conducts a major programme of work for one of our important customers at their sites. Our expert team offers a unique capability in the field of Post Irradiation Evaluation. We develop, deploy and maintain spent fuel underwater examination equipment, within a controlled active environment, using specialist designed equipment. The team is based out of Workington Laboratory but undertakes underwater spent fuel examinations on site at EDF-Energy Nuclear Power Stations to high quality and safety requirements. The successful candidate will join a small team, who have unique expertise, and will be required to attend underwater surveys (6-8 surveys per year, working away for up to 12 days at a time), assist in the servicing and maintenance of equipment and produce data packages for delivery to EDF. The position requires the maintenance of strong working relationships with the immediate team, projects and facility teams. The programme requires team members to work to high quality standards and demonstrate an enabling, pro-active attitude to resolving issues. In accordance with any nuclear industry positions, individuals will need to demonstrate a high degree of nuclear professionalism, adhering and contributing to a positive health and safety culture. When not carrying out underwater surveys at EDF sites, the role holder will be able to work flexibly under hybrid arrangements, with some time required at Workington and Sellafield sites.
