Description:

HV Electrical Engineer - Nuclear
Location: , Bristol (hybrid working)
Salary: Competitive + benefits (perm)

Are you an HV Electrical Engineer who wants to work on genuinely next generation nuclear projects rather than just keeping legacy assets running?

iO Associates are partnered with a global turnkey supplier into nuclear, solar, geothermal and wider power generation. You'll be joining the team in Almondsbury, working on the electrical systems that underpin a new, unfailingly safe and secure source of clean energy.

The role

You'll sit within the engineering team, focusing on the design and analysis of HV and LV electrical systems for a new nuclear power plant. It's a hands on design role where you'll be:

  • Developing requirements and design specifications for electrical systems.
  • Performing system studies and calculations (load flow, short circuit, protection etc.).
  • Reading, interpreting and producing electrical schematics, SLDs and wiring diagrams.
  • Contributing to licensing / regulatory conformance evaluations.
  • Owning elements of cable routing and associated analysis.
  • Supporting vendor selection and technical vetting.
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams (I&C, mechanical, systems, safety).

You'll be working in and around 1kV / HV environments, and will have exposure to tools such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD (or similar).

About you

You don't need to have a career's worth of nuclear experience behind you - but you do need solid fundamentals in HV electrical design and a genuine interest in low carbon power.

We're looking for:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline).
  • 2-5 years' experience in electrical design or analysis - ideally in power generation, nuclear, transmission & distribution, or heavy industry/COMAH environments.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical design methods, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate technical documents and design deliverables with minimal rework.
  • Experience with one or more tools such as ETAP, PowerFactory, PSCAD (or similar power systems analysis packages).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have (not essential):

  • Experience on systems such as on site distribution (AC/DC), off site interfaces (switchyard), grounding & lightning protection, plant lighting, battery systems, comms or diesel generators.
  • Exposure to nuclear standards/regulatory guidance (e.g. NUREG, IEEE, IEC, EPRI) or COMAH sites.
  • A Master's in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Why join?
  • Work at the forefront of Nuclear technology.
  • Join a growing, multidisciplinary team where your input is visible and valued.
  • Clear opportunities for career development as the programme scales.
  • A genuinely mission driven environment, focused on clean, reliable energy.
