Description: Overview

The Principal Commissioning Engineer provides technical leadership and ownership of commissioning activities from strategy through system handover. Acting as the focal point between Company, Customer, and sub-contractors, you will ensure systems are commissioned safely, compliantly, and right-first-time.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, approve, and implement commissioning strategies, plans, and procedures.
  • Act as technical authority for commissioning within allocated systems or facilities.
  • Oversee commissioning execution across electrical, and C&I systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and project requirements.
  • Manage risks, Safe Systems of Work, and incident reporting.
  • Coordinate resources and sub-contractors to deliver work effectively.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, review competency, and foster team development.
  • Report performance against Safety, Quality, Time, and Cost criteria.
  • Drive continuous improvement and capture lessons learned.
  • Leads by example, fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing team while effectively planning and managing resources to meet commitments.
Qualifications
  • Degree-qualified Engineer (Electrical, C&I, Process, Nuclear).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards.
Experience
  • Experience commissioning complex systems in regulated or safety-critical environments.
  • Proven ability to lead commissioning activities and influence stakeholders.
  • Understanding of nuclear safety culture and compliance.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent; Membership of an Engineering Institution.
  • Experience on AWE sites or high-hazard commissioning.
  • Experience engaging with regulators or assurance teams.
What do I need before I apply
  • Active SC clearance or willingness to obtain SC clearance to carry out the role.
  • Please note that this contract invloves working 11-day fortnight, which comprises of 12-hour shifts (assumption is 66hr week)
  • Onsite full time (Burghfield, Berkshire)
