Description: Role OverviewProvide structural and mechanical design analysis support to a multi-disciplinary engineering team delivering complex engineering projects. Reporting to the Engineering Lead, this role is responsible for producing and validating design analysis to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and meet quality, schedule, and budget requirements.Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with design engineers to ensure designs are structurally sound and fit for purpose.
  • Perform engineering analysis primarily through hand calculations, supported by FE analysis where required.
  • Develop load cases including static, dynamic, and fatigue conditions.
  • Review and interrogate mechanical designs to determine analysis inputs and requirements.
  • Author and check design analysis and substantiation documentation.
  • Act as the technical focal point for internal and subcontracted design analysis activities.
  • Influence designs during concept and scheme stages to improve structural integrity, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
  • Present and justify analysis methods and results to clients and technical stakeholders.
  • Provide task planning and scheduling input to support overall project delivery.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, and third parties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree, HNC, or HND in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent).
  • Strong experience in stress analysis and hand calculations using Mathcad.
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. BS EN 13001, BS 2573, Eurocode 3).
  • Experience delivering analysis in highly regulated environments (preferably nuclear).
  • Proficiency in structural analysis methods including strength, stiffness, deflection, and power transmission.
  • Experience with FE tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, or NASTRAN.
  • Familiarity with materials including structural steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and concrete, and joining methods such as welding and bolted joints.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Competent with MS Office and 3D CAD tools (e.g. SolidWorks).
