About the Opportunity

amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver £7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

As a result of this increasing demand for our services we are looking for a Lead Structural Engineer to join our team on the Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1) Project.

The Project

The Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1) project will deliver additional storage for ILW. It will be a new class of store for the lower end of ILW in terms of fissile mass, described as Contact Handleable ILW.

The project is beginning the preliminary design stage so the key points to remember are as follows:

  • Good design experience including leading the process
  • BIM and the processes and management of will be a key area going forward
  • Good collaborative working within CS&A, engineering and cross function is required
  • Understanding how to integrate nuclear and conventional safety into design
The Role

As a Lead Structural Engineer you will lead the structural team in the definition, implementation and delivery of specified functional works that achieves safety, functional and business requirements to support the CS&A RE. Experience working with Eurocodes for concrete and steel would be useful.

Responsibilities could include;
  • Delivery of the structural design.
  • Manage the interface to and between Key Delivery Partners and the design team.
  • Understanding of the commercial implications of products, scope and packages.
  • Delivery of substantiation and other approvals.
  • Risk identification with proposed resolution / mitigation.
  • Production of Schedule and identification of key milestones.
  • Develop deliverables list and format (drawings, specifications, reports, BIM etc.)
  • Supporting the delivery of relevant Planning and permitting requirements.
  • Reporting into project leadership team including RE, Area Engineering Manager(s), Project Engineering Manager (PEM), Project Managers, Information managers and Programme managers as appropriate.
As a Lead Structural Engineer you will already;
  • Have a civil / structural engineering degree and have achieved or be working towards Chartered status.
  • Background engineering experience demonstrating a record of successful delivery including recent positions influencing professional engineers and guiding technical personnel.
  • Experience of working within a regulated and quality assured system (preferably nuclear) in roles where professional judgement is the key attribute.
  • Experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete design to Eurocodes, ideally including crane loading. Some experience of reinforcement detailed design and steelwork connection design would be an advantage. Able to undertake design independently and check others work.
  • Experience in using structural analysis / design software - ideally Tekla. Familiar with use of 3D models (Revit) and AutoCAD for 2D.
  • Working knowledge of CDM.
