Technical Author Location: Sellafield Site, Cumbria (3 days per week on-site - likely to increase) Security Clearance: SC (P4 Pass required to access site) 50-56/hour Inside IR35
The Opportunity We're supporting a major programme at Sellafield and are looking for a Technical Author to join a critical nuclear project at the forefront of the UK's clean-up mission. The Box Encapsulation Plant (BEP) forms a key part of the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo (MSSS) Programme-one of the most important hazard reduction initiatives on the Sellafield site. This project will safely treat and immobilise nuclear waste, preparing it for long-term storage, and will also support decommissioning activities across other legacy facilities. This is your chance to contribute to a nationally significant programme with real-world impact.
What You'll Be Doing - Developing and finalising Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals for BEP systems
- Working closely with engineering teams to ensure accuracy and clarity of technical documentation
- Taking a proactive role in validation activities, ensuring documentation reflects real-world operation
- Supporting aspects of the risk assessment process, contributing technical insight where required
- Delivering high-quality technical authoring services under a time-based contract (NEC3 PSC - Option E)
What We're Looking For
- Strong technical writing skills, ideally within engineering or nuclear environments
- Ability to interpret complex engineering information and translate it into clear documentation
- Experience working with O&M manuals or similar technical documentation
- Comfortable working on-site in a regulated, high-security environment
- Existing SC Clearance with P4 Pass (or ability to obtain quickly)
Additional Details
- Based on-site at Sellafield (SL accommodation - likely C1003)
- Initial requirement of 3 days per week on-site, increasing as the project progresses
- Role operates as a directed resource, supporting delivery under the BEP Joint Venture
Why Apply? This isn't a standard technical author role-you'll be embedded within a live nuclear project, influencing validation and contributing to safety-critical processes. It's a unique opportunity to combine writing expertise with hands-on engineering collaboration in one of the UK's most important infrastructure programmes.
