Description:


Our client, a leader in the nuclear sector, is seeking a Hardware Designer to support the delivery of complex control and automation systems. This is a contract position that offers the opportunity to work on high-integrity, safety-critical projects within a highly regulated engineering environment.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical enclosures, control panels, and interface systems
  • Produce detailed AutoCAD drawings and design packages
  • Develop and manage general assemblies, I/O schedules, cable calculations and routing, and power load and heat calculations
  • Support design reviews, site visits, and engineering assessments
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure high-quality design delivery
  • Produce supporting documentation such as test specifications, installation method statements, inspection reports, and quality records


Job Requirements:

  • Strong experience using AutoCAD for electrical design
  • Experience delivering EC&I hardware design within engineering projects
  • Experience designing control panels, MCCs, or electrical enclosures
  • Knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations and CDM Regulations
  • Understanding of cable routing, panel layouts, and system integration
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a project team


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with PLC, HMI, or SCADA systems
  • Experience in regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, or pharmaceuticals
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards like IEC 61508
  • Knowledge of Sellafield standards


Qualifications:

  • Degree/HNC in Electrical or EC&I Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • Hybrid working, typically 2-3 days per week in the office
  • Flexible working hours to support work-life balance
  • UK travel required at key project stages for site visits and commissioning
  • Security clearance: BPSS required, SC eligible
