Project Engineer

New Job Opportunity! Project Engineer on a 12 month contract Outside IR35 working on a Nuclear/Defence project.

Our Client has a requirement for a Project Engineer, who will be required to work on a Contract basis in Burghfield, Reading.

About the Project

This role supports the delivery of a major infrastructure programme in the Defence Sector constructing a modern replacement facility for assembly and disassembly operations.

Acting as Construction Manager on behalf of AWE s Supply Chain Partners, the team is responsible for managing delivery through to commissioning ensuring safety, compliance, and value for money.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated Project Engineer with 3 8 years experience in the UK construction industry to join a high-performing team. This is an exciting role for a driven individual who wants to work on a nationally significant and complex infrastructure project.

You will focus on the passive fire protection scope, supporting the Project Manager and site teams across technical, planning, and coordination functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Support: Interpret drawings, specifications, and design data to provide guidance to site teams.
• Quality Assurance: Help implement quality procedures, ensuring work is delivered to high standards and in compliance with regulations.
• Programme Support: Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, identify risks and support mitigation planning.
• Subcontractor Coordination: Work closely with subcontractors to ensure alignment with technical requirements and project timelines.
• Health & Safety: Promote a strong safety culture through regular inspections and contribution to risk assessments.
• Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve on-site technical challenges.
• Progress Reporting: Compile regular updates for the Project Manager covering achievements, risks, and next steps.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate clear and professional communication with clients, consultants, and other project stakeholders.

Skills & Experience

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• 2 5 years experience as a Project Engineer or Site Engineer on UK construction projects.
• Experience with passive fire protection is a plus, but not essential.
• Sound knowledge of UK construction methods and regulations.
• Competence in reading and interpreting technical drawings/specs.
• Proficiency with project planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6) is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Well-organised with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work autonomously or in a team.
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel as needed.
• CSCS card holder (or equivalent).
• Eligible for or currently holding SC (Security Check) clearance or higher.
