The role Submarines have some of the most rigorous safety and regulatory standards in the world - and it's the purpose of our Commissioning Engineers to ensure that the systems used on them are installed and working correctly.
You'll use both academic knowledge and practical skills - whether that's in electrical, mechanical, or naval architectural/constructive fields - which you'll apply to complex systems in a challenging environment. And because we support the Navy 24/7 our engineers sometimes work in shifts to get the job done. What you need to be a Commissioning Engineer A background in submarine engineering isn't essential - we are looking for individuals with transferable skills from a wide range of engineering/technical backgrounds including Electrical, Mechanical, Constructive and Naval Architecture. You'll need to have completed at least a Level 3 or 4 engineering apprenticeship or hold a degree in a relevant engineering discipline. You'll also need to have experience of technical system drawings and associated documentation, have good planning and time management skills, and have the ability to work to a consistently high standard in a dynamic environment.
