Posted: 22/10/25
Recruiter:Airbus ExO Zero Emissions SAS
Reference:3014729850
Type:Permanent
Disciplines: Engineering
Salary:Competitive
Location:Toulouse, UK
Description: Job Description:

CRYOPROP is a 3-year effort to explore the potential of superconducting materials and cryogenic temperatures on the performance of an aircraft s electrical propulsion system.

As a ground-test demonstrator, CRYOPROP is an ambitious, futuristic and disruptive superconducting and cryogenic experimental powertrain for hybrid/full electric propulsion system.

CRYOPROP will be composed of an ground-test electric demonstrator including a superconducting DC/AC network, a cryogenic motor control unit, a superconducting electric motor and of a cryogenic system. It also includes a ground-test cryogenic demonstrator, to analyse the behaviour of cryogenic components (heat-exchanger, valves, cryofan) for the cryogenic cooling system.

The opportunity of an internship on superconducting AC coils has risen within the team, based in Toulouse (Saint Martin).

This internship will ideally begin early 2026 (date subject to flexibility), and will last for a period of 6 months.

Main Missions

The internship will be focused on studying superconducting coils operating in AC current for superconducting motors comprising an important experimental approach. Your primary objective is to analyze the electromagnetic and thermal behaviour of superconducting coils in an electrical machine environment.

  • Simulation and calculation of the losses in a superconducting coil in different electric and thermal conditions. This includes the losses in the superconductor itself as well as the losses due to the environment and non superconducting components of the coil (radiation, conduction, eddy current, ).
  • Perform electrical and thermal measurement on a superconducting coil at cryogenic temperature in liquid nitrogen or cooled by cryogenic helium. This includes instrumenting the coils to perform the different relevant measurements.
  • Compile and analyze the experimental results to compare them to theoretical calculations.
  • Assist the team in experimental assessment of fault conditions of superconducting coils.

You will need to collaborate with a diverse technical team in order to understand the multi-disciplinary constraints around the electrical motor.

An open personality and the ability to work with a good autonomy level in a multi-cultural business environment will be necessary.

Your boarding pass

  • Master degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of electromagnetics
  • Understanding in thermodynamics and thermal engineering.
  • Previous knowledge in thermal engineering.
  • Familiarity with superconductivity and cryogenics will be appreciated
  • Autonomy, Adaptability, Availability, Accountability
  • Team-Player
  • Hands-on and solution oriented attitude
  • Passionate about technology, science
  • Sharing the values of transparency, courage, humility, empathy
  • Willing to have fun.
