Job Title: GI Project Manager
Location: Office-based - Coventry Reports to: Operations Manager
Purpose
The Infrastructure Division has an opportunity for a GI Project Manager with a degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or Civil Engineering, and 5-10+ years of relevant site and industry experience. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful applicant will be based at the Central Coventry office and join an experienced and enthusiastic team delivering ground investigation and geotechnical services to a wide-ranging client base across the Midlands. The business operates across a variety of sectors including major infrastructure for highways and rail, nuclear new build, onshore and offshore energy, and environmental projects. This is an office-based position requiring continuous client liaison from project award through to completion; therefore, the candidate must possess excellent organisational and communication skills. General Responsibilities / Specific Duties
- Plan and manage projects and business operations within the defined scope of responsibility.
- Develop and maintain existing and new business in conjunction with the Operations Manager.
- Promote the company's full range of geotechnical services.
- Demonstrate confidence and knowledge across a variety of ground investigation techniques.
- Oversee the planning, supervision, and programming of Ground Investigation projects.
- Project manage small to large-scale (including 1M+) ground investigation projects from award to completion.
- Take full responsibility for financial control of projects throughout their lifecycle.
- Compile monthly financial project accounts and assist the Operations Manager in maintaining project financial performance.
- Manage a small team of site engineers and site technicians.
- Assist the Operations Manager in supporting the technical and professional development of team members.
- Contribute to technical proposal preparation, represent the company at tender visits, and assist with contract scoping as required.
- Maintain the level of fitness required to undertake site-based tasks, including work on active construction sites and linear projects such as roads and railways.
Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification in a geotechnical discipline.
- Completion of relevant health and safety training schemes such as CSCS (Manager level), SMSTS, and CDM 2015 Regulations.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Competencies
- 5 to 8+ years of industry experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of project management experience.
- Excellent knowledge of ground investigation specifications, procedures, techniques, British Standards, and associated codes of practice.
- Understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and its implementation.
- Awareness of ICE and NEC contracts and effective contract administration.
- Familiarity with geotechnical and geo-environmental laboratory testing.
- Experience managing and collating large volumes of data.
- Knowledge of borehole log software, data presentation, and report compilation.
- Competent user of MS Office.
- Strong communication skills at all levels.
- Flexibility, mobility, and commitment.
Desirable
- Experience in financial forecasting and cost control for active projects.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body.
- Actively working towards Chartered Status
