  • Rate: £65 Per Hour
  • Location: Reading (Hybrid) with two days on-site per week
  • Duration: 12 months

The Senior Planner will undertake independent assurance reviews on behalf of the P3M (Portfolio, Programme and Project Management) function across designated Projects, Programmes, or Portfolios. The role focuses on providing robust, objective planning and scheduling assurance, ensuring compliance with defined standards, and identifying evidence-based areas for improvement.
This is a critical assurance role requiring strong technical planning expertise, stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with senior leadership in a highly regulated, high-hazard environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and undertake independent planning and scheduling assurance reviews.
  • Attend all meetings associated with assigned assurance reviews.
  • Participate in weekly tasking meetings with P3M Assurance Management.
  • Review project and programme documentation for compliance with defined standards, processes, and governance.
  • Analyse and assess schedules developed in Primavera P6, identifying risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Agree clear, practical recommendations and actions with Project, Programme, or Portfolio teams.
  • Provide objective, evidence-based feedback and improvement recommendations.
  • Confidently present findings, including potentially difficult messages, to senior management.

Mandatory Experience & Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior planning role on significant and/or complex projects or programmes.
  • Proven experience of conducting independent assurance reviews.
  • Strong working knowledge and practical use of Primavera P6, including schedule analysis and interrogation.
  • Ability to communicate complex planning issues clearly and professionally to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in delivering difficult or challenging messages in a constructive manner.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on objective, evidence-based conclusions.
  • Excellent report writing skills - clear, concise, and well structured.
  • Experience of working in a high-hazard, highly regulated environment.

Desirable (Preferable) Experience

  • Experience working in the nuclear and/or defence sector.
  • Familiarity with working under nuclear regulatory frameworks.
  • 10 years' relevant experience in planning, scheduling, or project controls.
