The Opportunity
This opportunity has arisen due to significant growth within a major UK energy and nuclear engineering organisation, which is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and by supporting new small modular reactor developers . You ll join a highly skilled fire engineering team working across new build, generation, life extension, and defueling projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical depth, autonomy, and the chance to influence safety strategy across nationally significant infrastructure.

Your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Developing fire safety strategies to ensure compliance with Building Regulations and relevant fire safety legislation, including solutions for escape, detection and alarm, structural fire protection, suppression, and firefighting access/facilities. This is completed using both prescriptive guidance and fire engineering principles
  • Undertaking conventional fire assessments and fire risk assessments to support compliance and demonstrate ALARP where non-compliances exist
  • Carrying out fire modelling using empirical hand calculations and software such as CFAST and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics to support performance-based fire strategies


You will have the following qualifications & experience:

  • Fire safety engineering experience covering most of the responsibilities listed above
  • Experience applying relevant prescriptive codes (e.g., ADB, BS 9999)


It s great if you also have the following

  • STEM degree (desirable, not essential)
  • Membership with a recognised institution (e.g., Institution of Fire Engineers)
  • Experience undertaking fire modelling to support performance-based engineered solutions (desirable)

You ll be based at one of several UK energy offices including Newcastle, Glasgow, Warrington, Gloucester, Bristol or Knutsford within a flexible hybrid working environment.
