Head of Civil Engineering Location: Glasgow (Hybrid working, with occasional site visits) Salary: Up to 95,000 (base) + benefits Position: Permanent Turner Lovell is partnering with a leading engineering contractor within the Power & Energy sector to recruit a Head of Civil Engineering to lead and develop their growing Civil Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to take ownership of the civil function across major transmission and infrastructure projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams from tender through to project delivery.
You will oversee internal designs, external design consultants, support bid strategy, manage technical risk, and ensure engineering solutions are commercially viable and aligned with project objectives throughout delivery. Key Responsibilities: - Lead and develop the Civil Engineering function across multiple Power & Infrastructure projects.
- Provide technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle, from tender stage through to construction and project completion.
- Manage external Civil Engineering design consultants, ensuring designs meet client requirements, programme objectives and commercial expectations.
- Support estimating teams by developing engineering solutions, identifying technical risks and improving bid competitiveness.
- Develop conceptual Civil Engineering solutions including earthworks, drainage, access roads, foundations and construction methodologies.
- Coordinate Civil Engineering activities with Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Commercial and Construction teams.
- Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and consultants, acting as the key Civil Engineering representative throughout project delivery.
- Drive improvements to Civil Engineering processes, standards and best practice across the business.
- Mentor, develop and support Civil Engineers within the team, creating a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Provide technical oversight during construction, supporting project teams with design changes, risk management and engineering decisions.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering.
- Significant experience within Civil Engineering, ideally within Power, Utilities, Renewables, Rail, Water, Nuclear or similar infrastructure sectors.
- Previous experience leading Civil Engineering teams, technical delivery or design management functions.
- Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, including tendering, design management, construction support and project delivery.
- Experience managing external design consultants and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical quality, programme and project costs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the confidence to engage with clients, contractors and senior internal stakeholders.
- Willingness to undertake occasional site visits across UK&I.
