The challenge 
Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. As a Nuclear Security Inspector specialising in Cyber Security and Operational Resilience, you’ll be at the heart of our work, building existing skills and knowledge in an incredibly varied role. 

The role 
From the latest cutting-edge facilities to decommissioned sites, ONR makes sure the entire civil nuclear industry – including suppliers, service providers and transporters – meet strict expectations for cyber security. It’s fascinating work that requires a whole range of diverse minds. With your unique perspective and background alongside your technical talents, you’ll protect a key part of the UK’s critical national infrastructure.

Day to day, you’ll be assessing cyber security arrangements, providing advice and inspecting facilities to ensure essential functions are able to be delivered safely and securely.  This includes ensuring the supporting systems including information and operational technology are adequately protected against an ever evolving cyber threat landscape. That means you’ll be in contact with those we regulate on a regular basis. The ability to connect and influence is essential, especially as you’ll be also collaborating with Government agencies, other regulators and international bodies. Ultimately, your aim will be to achieve the best possible outcomes by working with others.

The person 
With broad knowledge of cyber security and the resilience of essential functions, you’ll be a skilled professional. You’ll have worked in a high hazard industry or one where cyber security makes a significant impact. Wherever you’ve gained your experience, you’ll be up to speed on technical areas, but also the strategic and human factors that affect cyber security and, with the chance to gain experience across a range of cyber domains, you’ll be free to develop your expertise and progress, or to further specialise in areas of cyber security. 

What’s really important is the ability communicate clearly and openly, both in person and on paper. It’s vital that you can express complex technical concepts simply and write concise, accurate reports. The rewards
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £68,954 - £79,219, with opportunities to progress within this range. plus a generous market based allowance of £14,490 per year. Furthermore, our staff are enrolled in a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement.
