Senior Containment Fault Studies Analyst
About the Role
As a Senior Containment Fault Studies Analyst, you will lead thermal-hydraulic modelling of reactor containment and associated emergency cooling systems. You will deliver high-fidelity analyses that demonstrate system performance across a wide range of operating and fault conditions, supporting the effectiveness of safety systems, optimising plant design, and contributing to key elements of the nuclear safety case. You will work closely with system designers, safety case engineers, and experimental teams to ensure models are robust, validated, and aligned with safety and performance requirements. The role also involves contributing to the development of analysis methods, verification and validation processes, and continuous improvement of modelling tools and approaches. Senior analysts are responsible for planning and delivering technical work, leading small teams, and supporting capability development across the wider engineering function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead containment and emergency cooling system modelling activities
- Deliver high-quality thermal-hydraulic analyses to demonstrate system performance
- Analyse plant scenarios including:
- Normal operation and grid response
- Operational transients (e.g. shutdown and restart)
- Fault conditions involving passive safety systems
- Support and contribute to nuclear safety case development and authorship
- Work with system designers to influence plant design, control strategies, and system performance
- Apply rigorous verification, validation, and uncertainty quantification (VVUQ) processes
- Develop and maintain automated analysis workflows using Python on Linux-based HPC systems
- Support benchmarking of analysis tools against experimental data
- Collaborate with test teams supporting large-scale experimental programmes
- Communicate analysis results clearly across multidisciplinary teams
- Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers within the team
