NDT Manager Location: North East England Permanent Full-time Jackson Hogg are supporting a well-established industrial manufacturer in the North East with the appointment of an experienced NDT Manager. This is a senior technical role with real responsibility. The successful candidate will sit at the heart of quality and compliance on site, balancing hands-on NDT activity with full ownership of departmental governance, radiation safety, and capability development. The Role Reporting directly to the Quality Manager, the NDT Manager will provide technical leadership across all non-destructive testing activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and effective application of NDT techniques in a regulated manufacturing environment. While the role retains an operational element, the primary focus is governance, compliance, and leadership of the NDT function. Key Responsibilities Radiation Safety & Governance - Full ownership of Local Rules, ensuring compliance with current legislation
- Management of medical screening requirements
- Maintenance and review of Radiation Risk Assessments, including rehearsals
- Oversight of RPS training and appointed personnel
- Management of dose records for Classified Persons
- Control of safety checks and equipment servicing / calibration
- Primary site contact for the Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA), including liaison with the HSE regarding consent
Technical & Departmental Leadership - Management of NDT method training and certification in line with business and workload demands
- Oversight of NDT techniques and their correct application across production
- Leadership and development of the NDT team
- Management reporting and generation of KPIs to support quality and operational performance
Hands-On NDT Activities - Radiography of castings using X-ray radiography (digital and computed)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) of castings and forgings
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of castings
- Penetrant Testing (PT) of castings
Candidate Requirements This role is suited to an experienced NDT professional who is comfortable operating at both technical and managerial level. You will ideally have: - PCN or SNT Level II certification in Radiography, with experience in Digital or Computed Radiography
- Background in testing castings and forgings
- Additional qualifications in MT, UT and PT (advantageous)
- Proven experience managing an NDT team and/or holding responsibility for Local Rules and radiation governance
- Strong understanding of compliance, safety, and quality requirements in an industrial manufacturing environment
