Hinkley Point C, Somerset

Contract Role Inside IR35

5 days per week on site

500 to 655 per day (paye)

750 to 890 per day (umbrella)

Job Purpose / Overview

To ensure the Hinkley Point C construction site and Associated Developments maintain compliance with its arrangements and promote best practice. This will cover a wide number of areas including our Nuclear Site License arrangements and Principal Contractor standards and commitments.

To establish and implement a world class approach to Health and Safety on the HPC Construction Site.

Establishing processes and standards and providing oversight to ensure these are vigorously applied.

Principal Accountabilities

Lead and co-ordinate Department activities and resources to ensure full compliance with agreed Health and Safety and Principal Contractor Standards and expectations.
Establishing and maintaining Health and Safety standards and Policies aligned with the associated levels of risk for Health and Safety and monitor their delivery on site;
Ensure all Department activities, including that undertaken by Delivery Partners and Supply Chain, are performed with full regard to NSL arrangements, Statutory Regulations, Company and location directives, procedures and Safety Rules. Ensure that operation experience feedback is promoted and used.
Management of the Department activities providing a professional customer / Client based quality service in all aspects of Health and Safety and Principal Contractor Standards and regulatory interfaces.
Ensure the Project develops a strong Project culture that is consistent with recognised nuclear safety culture.
Support with SME's the on-boarding of contractors to site.
Ensuring Department business plans / budgets are accurately prepared, effectively monitored and controlled at the appropriate level in the organisation, encouraging / sponsoring initiatives for continuous improvement and reporting progress on agreed actions to the HPC Project Construction Director.
Working closely with HPC site executive team to agree and implement construction site policies and strategies to achieve project goals and objectives.
Ensure Department resources, processes and activities are continuously reviewed and optimised to achieve HPC project objectives. Ensuring all section staff are appraised, trained, and developed in line with project needs.
Management of the department activities to meet agreed quality standards ensuring compliance with the HPC Project Quality Manual and quality improvement programme and to meet prescribed service levels, standards and targets.
Support the HPC Way communities of best practice in the areas for which you are responsible for.
Manage and support the Occupational Health and Hygiene Team.
Manage and support the Construction safety team.
Drive the development and implementation of the Principal Contractor arrangements and standards and ensure full compliance across the HPC construction site.
Supporting the site's emergency scheme in a key role.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential
Ability to identify key internal and external stakeholders and decision makers, to influence continuous improvement across the project and wider EDF organisation.
Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to develop a wide network and build trust-based relationships across the client and the construction industry.
Results focus tempered with team centred approach.
Skilled at interfacing and operating in a large corporate environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Good knowledge of large projects and site operations.
Long term perspective. Ability to establish a vision and develop/implement strategy to attain it.
Knowledge of national and international Health and Safety standards including: CDM Regulations.
Experience of managing multi-disciplined teams.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential
Significant Health and Safety experience including running a Health and Safety Department within a large project environment.
Proven leadership capability with experience of dealing with external bodies.
Experience of working in a regulated and unionised environment. Proven track record of achieving excellent health and safety performance.
Degree in Science/ Engineering / Construction.
NEBOSH Diploma or European equivalent.
Chartered Member of IOSH.
